About us
Our story
Seed to Shuck Ventures was formed by serial entrepreneur and shellfish industry innovator Ricky Fitzhugh to develop advanced solutions that restore and sustain the oyster reefs of the Chesapeake Bay and improve the efficiency of aquaculture operations.
Practicing methods born on Maryland’s Eastern Shore and refined in tidal waters around the world, Seed to Shuck, under holding company WRF Group, Inc., is an active partner with federal and state agencies, conservation organizations and watermen to plant new growth in oyster sanctuaries, public fisheries and private leases in Maryland and Virginia. With vast R&D and aquaculture expertise, our vertically integrated company utilizes best practices in hatchery management, restoration techniques and high-process equipment manufacturing to deliver strong and sustainable results.
Where we are
Seed to Shuck Ventures is based at two Dorchester County sites on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Our headquarters and equipment manufacturing center is located in Cambridge, a deep-water port and historic Delmarva manufacturing hub. The Chesapeake Bay watermen’s village of Fishing Creek at Hoopers Island is home to our hatchery and nursery operations, shellfish stockpiles and restoration fleet.
