Larvae & Seed

Drawing from the waters of Back Creek on Hoopers Island, Seed to Shuck operates a hatchery to spawn new oyster larvae for spat on shell production and new restoration projects on the Bay. At our nursery, we grow oyster seed that is sold to farms along the East Coast that are producing oysters for commercial consumption.

Salinity range

Located mid-bay on the Chesapeake at the mouth of the Honga River, Seed to Shuck’s hatchery/nursery is located on Back Creek at Hoopers Island. We condition our broodstock and grow seed for farming in waters that have an average salinity range of 12-14ppt.
